Migrating Away from Magento Go

From the 1st February 2015 Magento Go will no longer exist. Those with a current Magento Go account will need to migrate their store to another platform – here at Creare we can help you make that transition.

Sadly, with the closure of Magento Go we are seeing a lot of small to medium businesses wondering what lies in store for their own Magento Go website. The truth of it is all Magento Go websites will need to be migrated.

Magento have kindly provided their own Magento Go Migration Guide but for the humble store owner this may seem a bit too technical and almost impossible to complete by yourself if you’re not familiar with some level of backup/export processes and domain registration.

We’ll help you through this process.

Here are the typical steps we’d need to take in order to ensure a smooth transition:

  • Discussion with us to see which new eCommerce platform would suit your business requirements
  • Access to your Magento Go migration centre so that we can export all available data
  • Plan your new eCommerce website build and migration procedure

Please get in touch and we can show you what options we have available for your new eCommerce platform.

The idea behind Magento Go was to create an easy-to-use platform for business owners who wanted to manage their own online stores without the need to worry about servers, developers or tweaking the software themselves.

We’ve made the difficult decision to shut down Magento Go on February 1, 2015. Your store will not be affected during the Holiday shopping season – it will continue to operate and perform normally, and Magento will continue to provide customer service until February 1, 2015.

The main selling point for Magento Go was the fact that it was built upon the core Magento framework – a solid basis for any e-commerce store and whose community and enterprise editions have been used by over 200,000 websites worldwide (http://trends.builtwith.com/shop/Magento).

Creare have been working with Magento Community Edition for over 4 years and have helped businesses expand their sales through successful Digital Marketing campaigns.
