Magento local.xml Boilerplate

Almost two years ago I wrote a post called ‘Magento local.xml Boilerplate’ on the Magento Fox blog. It was quite a popular post and came in useful for the Magento developers at Creare. I have made a couple of minor updates, but the general gist of the whole file is exactly the same.

It is designed to save you a bit of time coding XML that you would need to write on a regular basis. I have removed the contact page section as appropriate meta data was added by default to 1.7.

As usual, if you have any comments or suggestions please let me know!

nice post! I’ve created a boilerplate for magento that might be useful for anyone who wants it, it’s up on GitHub

    Very Very nice &useful……thanks…..thanks

  • How would I include an external css file from google’s cdn, from the example I’d have thought this would work, but I’m not seeing anything added to my head:

    Am I doing something wrong?

Unfortunately there is no simple way of doing this within the existing code.

The only way I can think of would be to unset the existing CSS files that appear above your custom stylesheet, and add them back in. A bit messy, but will do the job.

Thanks for this post. Do you know if there is a way of showing/hiding content on product pages based on the parent category?
